Alfred Wainwright's guides to walking in the Lake District mountains continue to be favourites even after upwards of half a century. Reprints of the initial editions are still bought for the bookshelf in spite of being somewhat outdated. It is important, though, not to forget that landscape changes as time goes by. The Lake District hills might all still be there nevertheless details of pathways, fencing, plantations, and so on, do change.
